Four Tips to Add to Your Google Video Ads

Google advertising is such a great resource tool to upload and create advertising for your brand. There are several types of Google advertising formats, but video ads are unique in the sense that it needs to be uploaded to YouTube first. Last week I came up with an idea to experiment with how to efficiently upload YouTube videos into Google Video Ads. After a couple of trials and errors here are four tips that made the process easier.

Research and plan your strategy before filming your video

Research your target audience, and identify your retail brand’s demographics and your retail’s brand target audience before thinking of any video advertising ideas. Once you identified the correct audience you can plan the digital strategy of your video advertising. Is your goal to get leads? Get conversions? Or is it to get traffic to your website? All of these questions are valid and can be added if your strategy permits it.

Create a storyboard

Storyboards are traditionally used to plan animations and commercials. I recommended creating a storyboard that plans out the beginning, middle, and end of the video. A one-minute video needs to be engaging, informative and educational. The first ten seconds need to capture the viewer before they can skip it.

Use more than one country to target your advertising to a wider audience

Typically, advertisers in the United States just target the United States. It is recommended to add more English-speaking countries to test out your video advertising. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom are great choices to include in your geographic targeting. If your brand has another language attached to it, you can add more countries.

Create different variations of  one video advertisement for A/B Test

When creating your video ads keep in mind that different elements such as narration and music can change your ad and create a different experience. For instance, if you have a Google ad promoting your retail brand with electronic music in the background, it might create a fun environment in the viewer’s minds. At the same time, create a video ad with the same clips but without the music to be able to A|B test it. AB testing is when you have two of the same advertisement, but one has another element attached. Whichever advertisement does better will have data that can improve and make your advertisements more efficient for you and your target audience.
